We are all trying to get our heads around the unprecedented impact Coronavirus is having on our lives.
Children are off school, where possible we are working from home, so many jobs on hold, vulnerable and elderly are being told to completely isolate themselves and everyone is to stay home. Social distancing, means we are not seeing friends and family.
What to do when you are at home and in need of entertainment?
Lets ensure we make the best use of our time and maintain our mental state, when being stuck at home for who knows how long.
Plus, there are lots more ideas on my Pinterest Board Things To Do When Stuck at Home.
Do some making. Maybe there is something that you have always wanted to have a go at and learn. Or maybe it is time to get the cookery books out. Or a craft that is really quick and simple, that you can all do together, no matter what age.
Simply Ribbons have a huge range of ribbons and ribbon based craft kits. The craft kits include ribbon wreaths and garlands. Or order a few mixed bags of off-cut ribbon bundles, perfect for lots of different ideas,
My go to bit of calm at the moment, is to concentrate on what nature is up to.
In particular, everything that is growing in my garden and the entertaining garden birds, who are completely ignoring what is going on in the human world. Busily making their nests and feeding their little ones, where they have already arrived. The morning chorus is really starting to sound beautiful at the moment.
Feed the birds and get some pleasure from watching them. I have set up my feeding table. Wiggly Wigglers are a brilliant shop for this. They have everything you need to keep your garden birds happy. Especially their homegrown bird seed.
I predict our gardens are going to look beautifully well kept this year. They will also be used more, as we spend more time in our own environment.
Denys & Fielding are a lovely shop for enjoying the outdoors and bringing the outdoors in, when the weather is not quite so good.
Gorgeous deck chairs, floor cushions, gardening aprons, hand balms and candles, plus lots more.
This is an unprecedented and historic time in our lives . If you have ever though of keeping a journal of your life, now is the time.
Keep it as an adult (I am keeping one) or encourage you children to keep one. Fill it in as a family. Key events, how you are feeling, what this experience is like from all ages view point. Include some pictures and drawings. Imagine how brilliant it will be to look back on your words in years to come. Great for the mind too.
A great way to get a new look to a room, or to reuse a piece of furniture. Paint it, cover it, up-cycle it in some way.
I have a number of pieces of furniture and some soft furnishings I have been meaning to get around to up-cycling for ages. Time to tackle those projects.
The wonderful Surface Candy create knobs. A wide range for furniture, drawers, doors and wherever else you need a knob. They will even create a bespoke one just for you. Decorated by hand these are very special.
The art of mindfulness, or as I like to call it, the art of doing nothing whilst doing something. I love being engrossed in something. So calming.
Chiswick Gift Co have a range of doodle pads, activity books and keepsake books. All great fun.
From You To Me is a fabulous shop for some great books, journals and notebooks. They have published a brilliant Mandala drawing book. Create your own manadala’s. Such a wonderful way to get mindful and creative.
This is actually a good time to plan and think about where you are at right now. Journalling and planning are always really meaningful exercises for positivity and getting the most out of life. In this lockdown, stay at home world, now is as good a time as any to dig deep and plan where you want your life to go and how you are going to get there.
I have done lots of sewing in the past, but over the years this has gone by the wayside. Time to dig out those needles and brush up on my skills. I wonder how much I can actually remember? Hopefully it is like riding a bike. Though with all the video tutorials out there, I am sure it won’t take long to get into the swing of it.
The wonderful Beyond Measure have some lovely sewing projects for developing or learning a sewing skill.
Who knows how long we will be keeping safe by staying at home. But in the mean time there are so many things to do when stuck at home.
