This really is a brilliant example of how unique and special our independent shops are.
So, whether you sew, crochet or knit. Whether you are a seasoned pro or need a kit to start you off. These shops have it all.
This is material heaven. I am lucky to live near the actual shop for Textile Express. It is a sewers dream. But you don’t need to be so close, as they have a brilliant online shop too. This really is one of those spoilt for choice moments. Fabrics of all kinds, haberdashery, workroom supplies and some great little sewing related gifts too.
This is a brilliant shop for knitting, crochet, embroidery and material craft supplies. I love this shop. So much choice and everything you could possibly need. They have some great product shots too allowing you to see the colours and textures of the yarns really well. I just want to go to their warehouse and spend hours looking at all their beautiful products. They do have a shop, so maybe a trip to Leamington Spa is in order. But in the mean time I will happily browse (for hours!!) their online shop.
For all things knitting and for all skill levels. The Knit Kit Company have some really gorgeous kits and they also have some lovely yarns in beautiful colours and textures. They also have a great tips page. For those who need a little reminder how to do the basics of knitting, their step by step instructions are really clear. Having not picked up a pair of needles for some years, this page is really handy. Happy knitting!!
This shop is made for people who make anything in textiles. The products are beautiful. The shop is different from the others, a little bit quirky, a little bit vintage and so worth a look. A real cornucopia of treasures. From handmade ceramic buttons to stylish trimmings, textile inspired jewellery to wooden needle cases. Some vintage and some practical little tools too. This really is a gorgeous shop for those who love to make things with material and yarn. An absolute treasure trove.
Looking for a sewing, knitting or crochet kits? This shop has some brilliant ones. I met this shop at the Country Living Fair and fell in love with their products then. They have a brilliant selection; crochet, knitting, sewing, friendship bracelets, cross stitch, pom pom and lots more. For all ages and for lots of different occasions. I really love all their different kits. Plus if you are looking for some ideas of what to make, they have some free projects on their blog. Buttonbag have created a lovely shop.
A lovely little shop specialising in unusual yarns for knitting, crochet and other crafts. Have you tried using these different yarns yet? They sell a number of different ones. T-shirt yarn, rope, ribbon, tape and merino wool. They even sell Barbante yarn which is perfect for making adorable amigurumi (I had no clue but so glad I googled it as I love them!), macrame, rugs and fashion accessories. Your creative brain will go wild when you visit this shop!! Mine has!
They describe themselves as “The one stop Patchwork & Quilting shop” and they are. They have everything you could possibly need for patchwork and quilting! A family business opened in 1990. This really is a very inspiring shop. I could browse around it for hours. I saw them a few years ago at a show and it was their wonderful range of fabric that caught my eye. If you are like me, an absolute glutton for fat quarters, you will be very tempted. A real gem of a shop.
I have enjoyed finding these shops. It is always a pleasure to share them with you.
Did you like my collection? I would love to know what you think or if you know of any shops to add to this list.

There is lots more shopping inspiration to come. I send out a regular email about the shops I find and any offers or giveaways that are taking place. To join simply add your email (top right, or bottom right of this page).
Please be aware. All opinions in this blog post are mine. At the time of writing I have not received any payment or free samples from the shops mentioned. Though I mention lots of shops here, you must form your own opinion as to whether their products are for you.
I aim to include only independently owned shops. Sometimes it is tricky to work out if they are. So, as far as I can tell, they are independently owned, but apologies if the odd one that is not slips into my blog post….they hide it well!
