#LoveOurShopsMonth has been developing in my brain for about a year. If truth be told maybe even longer than that.
Even though I thought it was a great idea, the little fear fairy kept saying “what if no one joins in?” and so it has taken me this long to actually put it out there. But now I finally have I am so pleased at the response. It has blown me away. The “what if no one joins in?” question seems so silly now, because so many have joined in.
If you fancy being inspired a little more, the Instagram #loveourshopsmonth feed is here
In case you have no idea what I am talking about, let me summarise what Instagram Challenge #loveourshopsmonth is.
For one month from June 17th 2019 to July 17th 2019, I have created 23 prompts (it is week days only). Prompts are suggestions for what to post on Instagram that day.
Independent shops, or those who just love to shop independent, post an image and caption around that theme ensuring that they include the #tag #loveourshopsmonth.
Everyone can then view the feed and be inspired by what these lovely shops post.
Here are the prompts:
I S – D R I N K I N G – O N – A – S C H O O L – N I G H T – A L L O W E D ? – Wow, I have been blown away by the response to my IG challenge #loveourshopsmonth. Thank you to everyone who has posted their lovely photo’s of themselves. They are all fantastic and I am so pleased to meet you.
So now me!! I am Barbara, and I am the founder of #LoveOurShopsMonth. I love shopping with them and they are always my first choice, they are the best choice.
I run a shopping directory for independent shops, I used to run an online shop and prior to that was a Finance Director. Most of my corporate life was at Gillette, which was a great place to work. So many wonderful memories.
You will mostly find me at home working away on Love Our Shops UK with my lovely (very big!) doggy guarding me. Or I am being mum to two almost teenagers (how did they grow up so fast?) Or chatting none stop to Neal when he comes in from work, as I have not seen an adult all day. Poor Neal.
So cheers everyone. That was a full glass at the first attempt of taking the photo. My edit reel is very funny.
As part of the challenge, each day I will be sharing a few of the posts that stand out to me for one reason or another. All of the posts are amazing, so deciding is not easy.
You can find them all on Instagram, their names are below each of the images, or look at the Instagram feed for #loveourshopsmonth and you can find them there.
Part of an Instagram Challenge is the support people taking part give each other. Either within the group or on the Instagram posts.
Each week we will be voting for the KINDEST PERSON OF THE WEEK. The one that stands out the most for their support.
The Kindness award for week one goes to, the lovely Becky Woolley of @daffodowndilly. Thank you Becky, we are all so grateful.
There have been lots of supporters of #loveourshopsmonth. They have all shared the challenge to spread the word. They all support independent shops and choose to shop with them every day.
My thanks go to these supporters:

Excited about week 2.
Please be aware. All opinions in this blog post are mine. Though I mention lots of shops and small businesses here, you must form your own opinion as to whether the shop or business and their products or services are for you.
I aim to include only independently owned shops and businesse. Sometimes it is tricky to work out if they are. So, as far as I can tell, they are independently owned, but apologies if the odd one that is not slips into my blog post….they hide it well!
